TAKE A JOURNEY THROUGH THE YEARS WITH US!

1958

The Foundation

Vemco (formerly known as Multifoods Corporation Ltd.) was founded in 1958 by Victor and Sally Mouttet and started off as a sole proprietorship. It began as a commodity trading business, trading products such as peanuts, beans and prunes.

1960

The Evolution: Early 1960s

The company went from trading in commodities to branded food products. The original branded products included S.X. Processed Meats from Canada, Celebrity Canned Meats from Denmark and Kerrygold Dairy Products from Ireland.

1965

The Setback: Mid 1960s

The imposition of the Negative List adversely affected products the company imported that could be manufactured locally and by the mid-1970s the only major brand food products that the company retained was the Kerrygold range of Dairy Products.

1975

Decision Time: Mid 1970s

Victor Mouttet made two decisions. 1. Establish a factory to manufacture food products. 2. Expand and grow the Kerrygold brand.

1978

The Outcome: The decision paid off (Late 1970s)

Vemco’s (known then as Multifoods Corporation Ltd) manufacturing was started in 1976 with peanut butter being the first product manufactured followed by mayonnaise and mustard. Under the brand names’ Buffet, Sunrich and French’s brands.

1980

The Revolutionary Risk

To package milk powder in sachets or not? That was the question. This revolutionary move would have meant that this will be the first time in the world that milk powder would be packaged in a sachet. But, Victor Mouttet took the gamble and it paid off! The product, Kerrygold, was finally introduced in 1978 and as the saying goes…the rest is history! Kerrygold became a dominant brand in the milk powder market and the sachet became a common alternative to cans in milk powder markets throughout the world.

1985

Important change of events: 1980s & Early 1990s

In the mid-1980s they expanded their product range by creating the Swiss brand of food products, initially concentrating on condiments, sauces and peanut butter. After the purchase of Geddes Grant Foods (now Cereal Products Ltd) to include a complete range of pasta products. The Negative List was thereafter removed allowing the company to once again expand into imported branded food products attracting major international food.

2000

A Techno Evolution

To satisfy the needs of people within the foodservice market, to establish a market for bulk ketchup, and to be more competitive in the bulk sales of mayonnaise, mustard, and barbeque sauce, Vemco once again took the initiative and invested in technology and equipment that was both innovative and risky. Instead of packaging in 1 gallon jars and #10 tins which was the industry standard, Vemco developed Katerpack 2L & 4L sachets for condiments. With the introduction of new technology, Vemco introduced a consumer sachet for Swiss ketchup in the conventional 750 ml size called Econopak, giving the everyday person a quality tomato ketchup at a competitive price.

2024

What is a CDP Company?

In July 2015, Agostini’s Limited, one of Trinidad and Tobago’s leading public companies, and the Goddard Enterprises Ltd group of Barbados, entered into a partnership arrangement in order to use their combined strengths in FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) to support the formation of a powerful distribution network in the Caribbean region.

This formation is known as Caribbean Distribution Partners Limited [CDP], a 50/50 owned joint venture company comprising of major FMCG distribution companies from around the Caribbean like Trinidad’s Hand Arnold and Pepsico, Barbados’ Hanschell Innis Limited and Guyana’s Desinco Limited. In October 2016, Vemco Ltd was acquired by CDP and became a part of this group, thereby increasing the focus and strength of Vemco as a distribution company. CDP allows for both its group owned brands and those that it represents on behalf of international partners to see growth in the coming years and expects that it will further position the group to be the partner of choice, in the Caribbean region.
